Jewelry Documentation & Valuation

Jewelry Appraisals

Thoughtful documentation for the pieces you wear, inherit, insure, and preserve. Reagan Steele Jewelers offers in-house jewelry appraisal services for insurance, estate, inheritance, and resale guidance.

An appraisal is more than a number. It is a written record of the details that make your jewelry identifiable: the metals, gemstones, measurements, condition, photographs, and market context that help protect and document your piece over time.

Insurance Replacement

Documentation prepared to help support insurance coverage and replacement value in the current retail jewelry market.

Estate & Inheritance

Thoughtful evaluation for inherited jewelry, family collections, and heirloom documentation when clarity is needed.

Resale Consultation

Practical guidance for clients considering selling jewelry, including realistic secondary-market expectations.

Our Process

Careful, detailed, and documented in-house.

Each piece is reviewed individually, with attention to construction, materials, gemstone characteristics, condition, and current market considerations.

01

Intake & Initial Review

Walk-ins are welcome, and clients may call ahead with questions. We begin by discussing the purpose of the appraisal and reviewing the jewelry to determine the appropriate type of documentation.

02

Photography & Measurements

We photograph the jewelry, record measurements, document identifying details, and note visible characteristics of the piece.

03

Gemstone & Metal Evaluation

Stones are inspected under magnification, measured, and described. Metals are tested when appropriate, and finished pieces are weighed and documented.

04

Written Documentation

Appraisals may be typed, printed, or emailed. We keep appraisal records on file so updates can be prepared more efficiently in the future.

Timing: Most appraisals are completed within approximately 7–10 business days, often sooner depending on complexity and current workload. In many cases, we can gather photographs, measurements, and descriptions while you wait, or you may leave your jewelry with us — whichever you prefer.

What Your Appraisal May Include

Every piece is different, but our appraisal documentation may include the following details depending on the item and purpose of the valuation.

Jewelry photographs
Metal testing and description
Finished piece weight
Stone measurements and approximate weights
Gemstone observations under magnification
Mounting style and condition notes
Current market valuation context
Printed or emailed documentation
Valuation Types

Different purposes require different values.

Insurance, estate, and resale conversations are not always based on the same kind of value. We help clients understand the difference so their jewelry is documented appropriately.

Replacement Value

Typically used for insurance purposes, replacement value reflects what it may cost to replace a comparable piece through a retail jewelry source.

Fair Market Guidance

Often relevant for estate or inherited jewelry conversations, fair market context considers what a piece may reasonably sell for between willing parties.

Liquidation / Resale Reality

For clients considering selling, we can discuss realistic resale expectations and, when appropriate, provide our purchase offer.

A note on mounted jewelry: Gemstone grades and weights are often approximate unless stones are unset. Settings can limit visibility, so mounted stones are evaluated to the extent permitted by the mounting.

Reagan Steele Jewelers provides in-house appraisal and jewelry evaluation services. We are not representing these documents as court-certified expert testimony unless specifically discussed and agreed upon for that purpose.

Existing Clients

Complimentary appraisals for jewelry purchased with us.

Jewelry purchased through Reagan Steele Jewelers includes complimentary appraisal documentation when appropriate. We also provide updated appraisal services for existing records, with re-evaluations typically requiring less time than the initial documentation.

Appraisal pricing for outside jewelry varies depending on the complexity of the piece, the number of stones, the amount of research required, and the type of documentation needed. A simple solitaire and a multi-stone custom piece may require very different levels of evaluation.
